Happy Hours Gathering

Dear old boys,

Marist Brothers made their first footsteps on the soil of China in 1891. Since then, they touched numerous young souls, inculcating values and knowledge while shedding sweat, tears and blood. At school, seldom were we told by the Brothers of their early stories, and volumes of their historical documents had been left unopened for decades since their arrival in Hong Kong.

The adventures of Marist Brothers remain unstudied and undocumented at large — until the publication of the book “Dawn of the Word in Silence – The Adventure of the Marist Brothers in China”, which is an ambitious project with an attempt at tracing footprints of the Marist Brothers’ mission in China, revisiting those few ones that can still connect us to the distant past, and allowing us an opportunity to appreciate again their love, dedication and qualities as a role model, in addition to doing good quietly.

Spes Stanley Ku (K83) not only initiated this book project, but also committed to realising this daunting task during various stages: organising archives, interviewing, fact checking in cities as far as Rome, and supporting it financially. He would like to share his journey, the making of “Dawn of the Word in Silence”, in the coming happy hours gathering.
